what do you think about teenagers and the respect that they show their "elders" or lack there of?
My personal opinion is that teenagers today lack the kind of respect that we all grew up with. When our parents told us to do something we did it. We didn't ask why or sit there and think about it; we did it! I would never, even to this day at the age of 43, think about talking to my mother that way some teenagers do t their own parents.
Do my children speak in that same type of way to me? Yes they do. And the thing is that my husband and I raised them with the same types of moral/standards that we were raised with. Did i spank my children? Yes i did. Do i think that is always the answer. No i don't, but you know what? it served the purpose at the time. They knew not to do it again.
I think even though we as parents have done our best the society that we live in today has become very tolerant of this kind of behavior. People today are so afraid that certain types of discipline are going to get them into trouble.
I recently attended my mother's 50th class alumni. The speaker talked about how they as young students were paddled in school. And that they grew up with no "hang ups" nor were they scarred for life. He said that society has allowed this type of thinking and type of behavior.
I think that he is right.
